To study the works of Christ is not only the purpose of the present course, but for the Christian, it is the joyful engagement of a lifetime, even of all eternity. Within the limits of the time available, the major objective is to lead those taking this course to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the doctrine of salvation in the light of Scripture, both Old and New Testaments.
Crucial to such an understanding is the study of such biblical concepts as atonement, righteousness, justification, sanctification, faith and works. Biblical soteriology is compared with rabbinic soteriology to help students appreciate the difference between them.
The last part of the course aims to develop a clear perception of the central role of justification by faith alone in the history of Christian theology since the Protestant Reformation.
