Formerly, senior pastors with intern oversight used a supervisory method of exposing the young ministerial entrants a myriad of necessary skills. Instead, InMinistry utilizes the biblical model of mentoring. Such partnerships are initiated by the seminarian, sometimes with the input of the employing organization. Since participation in InMinistry requires mentorships, we also provide mentorship training.
This mentorship training is provided via phone conference and web based information provided by the Faith Mentoring and More organization of Grass Valley, California. Under the expert and Christ-centered guidance of Dr. Linda Philips-Jones mentorship training consists of 2, 2-hour sessions, one in the morning of mentors and one in the afternoon for seminarians. Such separate training has been found to offer the best in concentrated, profession equipping. Typically mentor-mentee matching follows InMinistry 's Orientation @ Andrews in July/August, and the phone conference training follow in late September. Equipment/materials required include internet and phone access, Christ-Centered Mentor's Handbook for mentors, and Mentee's Handbook for seminarians.
