Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry
The MAPMin degree is a collaborative arrangement between North American Division Union Conferences and the SDA Theological Seminary to provide advanced theological education in a field-based setting. As such, it is specifically designed for mature persons in ministry (employed or lay ) who hold a BA degree, have served in a local ministry leadership role for at least the last 5 years, and are 35 years of age or older. While not a substitute for the MDiv, the basic degree for the Adventist ministry, the MAPMin degree does provide ministerial education for Adventist pastors employed by NAD conferences.
Classes are delivered twice a year at sites within each Union territory. Each teaching module usually includes two different back-to-back classes thus conserving time and travel expenses. Internet courses are also available via the Seminary Office of Distance Learning (SODL). The full 48-hour program is delivered at each site over the course of four years.
Courses covered in the MAPMin delivery mimic those included in the MDiv program. In other words all applicants will be required to accumulate certain credits in each of the Seminary's major departments. Check sheets will determine how many credits will be needed in each of the following disciplines; Church Ministries (CHMN), Church History (CHIS), Biblical Studies (NTST) & (OTST), Theology and Christian Philosophy (THST), and World Missions (MSSN).
Schedule
Notice:
** All international students, including Canadians, entering the US to take InMinistry classes, even for a couple of days, are required to come on a student visa. In order to get a student visa one needs an I-20. In order to receive the I-20 the student must be accepted as a regular student and have a budget sheet approved (contact Juan Alvarez at alvarezj@andrews.edu). Canadian citizens do not need a visa but need the I-20 to present at the border.
Without the proper documentation students will not be able to register or attend classes. Unfortunately, students of programs, like the MAPM or MDiv InMinistry programs, will need a new I-20 every time they come for a session. Every time a new I-20 is issued, there is a fee called the I-901 SEVIS fee that needs to be paid directly to the government in the amount of $100 (instructions on how to pay will be sent with the I-20).
